Sundown Shakers: Arey Barker Takes Over SugarSand with Bold Sips and Sunset Vibes

Seminyak turned up the heat Saturday, 28 June 2025 as SugarSand's beachfront bar welcomed none other than Arey Barker, Beam Suntory Indonesia’s Brand Ambassador and Head Mixologist of 8 Degrees, who served up an unforgettable evening of cocktails, coastline views, and creative flair. From 6PM to 9PM, guests lounged poolside, soaking in the golden Seminyak sunset as Arey shook up two signature creations that proved why he’s one of the top names in the game. The takeover wasn’t just a bar shift, it was a full sensory experience, with SugarSand’s seaside energy setting the perfect backdrop for Arey’s bold, ingredient-driven mixology style. His first showstopper, CYCLONE, blended snake fruit-infused Roku Gin with dragon fruit, calamansi, and albumen–vibrant, velvety, and dangerously drinkable. Following close behind, MANEATER came in strong with Haku Vodka, torched ginger, lemon basil, and raspberry, a smoky-sweet potion with serious attitude. But beyond the flavors, it was Arey’s presence that stirred the crowd. Winner of the 2014 Indonesia Mixology Competition, Arey’s journey started in 2004 through a vocational food and beverage program in Nusa Dua. Fast forward two decades, and his philosophy remains grounded in natural ingredients, chef-driven techniques, and a passion shaped by global influences, from Joseph Borosky to Simone Caporale. As the night wore on, so did the conversations, the camera flashes, and the cheers for “just one more round.” It wasn’t just a night of drinks, it was a celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and the power of a well-poured cocktail to bring people together. Let’s just say, if Arey’s behind the bar, we’re already in line.
